Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star Andrew McCutchen has been named one of seven finalists for Sony’s MLB 13: The Show video game cover. Voting for the cover will be held Jan. 7-11, 2013 online and through social media outlets.
Fans can follow @MLBTheShow on Twitter for updates leading up to the contest. The hashtag on Twitter to vote for McCutchen will be #MLB13Cutch.
“MLB: The Show is one of my favorite video games. It’s truly an honor to now be a finalist to be on the cover for next season,” McCutchen said. “I enjoy interacting with our fans. I can’t wait for January to begin the contest, interact with the fans and hopefully earn the cover.”
McCutchen had a breakout season in 2012, leading the Pirates to their highest win total in 15 years. He was voted by MLB players as the National League Outstanding Player and ranked in the top five in most MLB offensive categories including batting average (3rd-.327), hits (4th-194), runs scored (4th-107), OPS (5th-.953), and WAR (4th-7.0). As a defender, McCutchen committed only one error for the season, and was rewarded with the prestigious Rawlings Gold Glove as the top National League center fielder.
Sony has so far announced three other finalists: Ryan Braun (Milwaukee Brewers), Bryce Harper (Washington Nationals), and C.C. Sabathia (New York Yankees). The remaining finalists will be announced throughout this week. A National League player has not graced the cover of MLB: The Show since Ryan Howard (Philadelphia Phillies) in 2008.
MLB: The Show is the highest-rated baseball video game franchise over the past five years, and is also the best-selling PS3 baseball video game over that same time span.
